"I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life
which are the real ones after all."
-Laura Ingalls Wilder
Meet Juliette Crane whose whimsical artwork is inspired by the little things in life...
1. When did you first begin creating art?
Art was the thing I loved to do as a child. It was the thing I never thought I could do as an adult. Last summer my sister-in-law gave me a few vintage wallpaper books and I took them outside, just for fun, and laid them with some paints in the grass. It wasn’t a serious thing. It was a completely joyful thing without pressure, just a bunch of art supplies and me in the summertime. That’s when I finally remembered the joy I felt as a child creating art. And now I can’t stop.
2. What is your favorite or most sentimental creation and why?
Like a Walk on the Beach is my favorite piece. I don’t create many paintings with couples, and this one is all about me and my husband in one of my favorite moments…walking along the beach under the moonlight. He’s probably singing me a Frank Sinatra song.
3. What people/places/things inspire your work?
I’m inspired by everything around me, so I try and get out of the studio and experience as much as I can. I love being outside, traveling and meeting new people. The whimsical and imaginative style of my work comes from what I feel in my heart as I experience these things in everyday life.
4. Is there a project you have always dreamed of creating?
What would it be?
I would be delighted to create gigantic, mixed media paintings of each member of my family. I’d hang them all in one large dining room and invite everyone over for dinner.
