being still

"Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake,
All now mysterious shall be bright at last."

-Katharina A. Von Schlegel

When we lost our baby back in March a dear friend sent this print to me. It immediately went on my mantel. However, what was the most meaningful was the quote on a bookmark included in with the print.
"When it's dark enough you can see the stars."
-R.W. Emerson
Until today did I stop and read and process the quote from the hymn above. Today was the day I was meant to really read it and take it in. I had planned for today to be a little different. Lots of work for the shop, paintings to be listed, etc. All week I have been cheerful and full of energy, I guess just keeping myself busy.  But as I sat still for a few minutes I realized those things won't be happening today. I'm going to take today and this weekend to rest and remember the birthday of a child I will not know here on earth. I am okay. I just need to be still.
