a few things on Friday 2.1.13

1. Oh hey, it's February. That was fast.

2. I did it. I got my hair chopped. It's been about 3 years since I've had it this short. I swore I wouldn't cut it again after it took so long to grow out, but over the past two weeks it's been driving me crazy. My hair dresser cut off over 9 inches. That's a lot of hair. And I love it. And Mr. Pen & Paint loves it. He told me I looked hotter and younger and well, I mean what more can a wife want to hear?

3. There have been a lot of things going on for me in the past couple of weeks - professionally and personally. Some are wonderful, some are challenges. On Tuesday I had a good reminder while I was reading this (January 29th). All is well. All IS well.

4. If you haven't ever read this post, please read it. Every week I'm fighting a battle to protect my art. It's very exhausting at times. I will remain positive, but when people do things that break copyright laws with artwork (mine or any other artists') I get very upset. I'm going to be putting a post together with resources for artists soon. If you are an artists/photographer/sewist/whatever you create, please protect your work and be kind with the work of others.

5. I have thoughts turning for a Valentine printable for y'all. I've just got to get it on paper.

6. I have now started this audio book. My kitchen counters have been un-stuffed and clean for over a week. And y'all it is AMAZING. I still have to get to other parts of our home but it's been wonderful to get organized.

7. I'm making something fun with stuff from this shop. I have been working on it in spurts when I have a bit of free time.

Happy Friday!

  1. I LOVE your hair. It looks beautiful!
Did you follow a tutorial for the watermarks on your pictures/art? Not that my photos can be called artistic or even close to actual photography, but I've been seeing more and more of people stealing other peoples pictures and I'm not sure what I would do if I saw one of my pictures on another site... especially so if one of my children was in the picture. Wow, huge run on sentence there; sorry about that.

  4. I love your new hair! It's GORGEOUS!! (p.s. I have just started to attempt some hand-lettering...I LOVE IT...so when I stumbled across your site...I fell in love. Such an inspiration --don't worry...I'm not a stealer of ideas...just a stealer of inspiration-- I hope to keep practicing and improve. I may start a 30 day challenge...or something like that...to encourage myself to practice regularly. It's great stress reliever and love expressing my creativity. Not sure what will come of it...but that's not the point of art...is it??)

    Love Michelle (visiting from www.enjoymyharvest.blogspot.com)

    1. Thank you :)
Hand lettering is definitely a challenge! I'm totally learning.
As far as stealer of ideas :) it's actually GOOD to steal ideas and make them your own. What I and other artists have had recent problems is when people use our EXACT artwork on their products. NOT okay.
      Hope you make pretty things!

  5. Lindsay. Your hair looks amazing. I always want to cut my hair off but it's curly and the shorter it is the curlier it gets.
It breaks my heart about the copywrite stuff. I know how hard you work. Happy weekend.

  13. Loving that haircut, hot mama! Loving your new camera canvas paintings, too. And, YIKES re: people using your artwork on their products. I'm interested to hear more about this, and your thoughts on preventing this from happening...it's my biggest fear as far as my artwork goes. This lady actually told me once that she received a card of mine in the mail, scanned it and REPRINTS her own cards with the image. I was speechless and I had conflicting feelings about it. On one hand, I was a little angry that she was basically using my work and reprinting it instead of buying more cards from me. On the other, it was an older lady and she clearly meant no harm and thought she was doing me a favor telling her friends about me. Kind of a sticky situation...some people just don't get it...while others just don't care. Anyway, love your art and your blog -- so happy to have met you at Indie last year! XO

  14. Definitely LOVE the short hair. I had short hair for a long time and have just started growing it out this past year. Really wonder how long I'll last! ha.

I went and read your post about protecting your art. Very good post, but mostly I was inspired by the way you encourage others with your art. That's always my goal with mine and with my words...It's so important. Love your blog and so happy I found you! :)
